About the organization

Journey to Recovery Behavioral Health and Wellness Center

A Michigan nonprofit corporation formed to close the gap between institutional discharge and successful community reintegration for adult men.

Mission

Rebuilding a life takes more than a bed.

Journey to Recovery provides a safe, structured, person-centered, recovery-oriented environment in which adult men can rebuild their lives through behavioral health treatment, substance use recovery services, stable housing, vocational development, life-skills education, accountability, and meaningful connection to community resources.

Vision

To become a leading Michigan provider of integrated behavioral health, substance use treatment, recovery housing, and reentry support — recognized for clinical excellence, integrity, innovation, accountability, and measurable life transformation.

Why we exist

The handoff that never happens.

Men leave jail, prison, treatment, and shelters with the same list every time: nowhere to live, no way to get to work, nothing on the calendar, and thirty days to prove to a supervision officer that it is all handled.

The services exist. They sit in six different buildings, each with its own intake and its own waitlist. Every system does its part. None of them owns the outcome.

Journey to Recovery was built to own it — housing, treatment, recovery support, and reentry planning under one roof, with one team and one plan per resident, structured so a man moves from stabilization to recovery to independence without ever starting over.

Planned location

A site identified in Saginaw County.

Journey to Recovery has identified an existing institutional building in Saginaw as the intended home of the program, and is working toward its acquisition.

The property

3400 S. Washington Rd., Saginaw, MI 48601

The building is an existing institutional campus already configured for residential and program use, which means the project adapts a building rather than constructing one — a shorter path to occupancy and a materially lower capital requirement than new construction.

[Add the building details you can verify: approximate square footage, prior use, condition, and whether the current zoning permits the planned use. Funders reviewing a capital request will ask for all four.]

Acquisition status

[State exactly where the purchase stands — for example: “Under letter of intent,” “Purchase agreement executed, closing pending financing,” or “In negotiation.” Be precise; funders verify this.]

Why Saginaw County

Saginaw County has the combination this program was designed for: a county jail and state facilities discharging men back into the community, an established behavioral health infrastructure through the Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority, active Drug Court and community-supervision programs, and no comparable integrated residential continuum for adult men in reentry and recovery.

What we hold ourselves to

Our operating principles.

Dignity

Every resident is a person with a history, a family, and a future — not a case number, a diagnosis, or a docket.

Accountability

Structure and expectations are part of care. Residents are held to commitments, and so is the program.

Clinical quality

Services are individualized, evidence-based, and documented against assessed need and medical necessity.

Measurable progress

Outcomes are defined in advance, tracked while residents are in the program, and reported honestly afterward.

Coordination

One team is responsible for the resident's whole plan — treatment, housing, employment, health care, and legal obligations.

Community

Recovery holds when it is connected to employers, families, providers, and recovery communities outside our walls.

Leadership

Board of directors and leadership team.

Journey to Recovery is governed by a volunteer board of directors that sets policy, approves the budget, and holds leadership accountable for program outcomes.
